Parenting Coordination is a structured, child-focused dispute resolution process aimed at helping families improve communication and manage parenting responsibilities without the need for prolonged litigation. This service is particularly beneficial for parents who find themselves repeatedly in conflict over parenting issues, as it offers a proactive, non-judicial alternative to resolving disputes.
As a Parenting Coordinator (PC), I bring a unique perspective to this role. With years of experience as a practicing litigator, I see firsthand the challenges and stressors that can arise for families in high-conflict cases. My litigation background enables me to incorporate insights from the courtroom into my approach as a PC. This knowledge helps me guide parents toward sustainable solutions that prioritize the well-being of their children and reduce the likelihood of recurring court involvement. My goal is to help parents develop strategies for effective co-parenting that support healthy family dynamics and encourage positive, child-centered communication.
A Parenting Coordinator is a neutral third-party professional, typically a licensed mental health or family law expert, with specialized training in family mediation. In my role as a PC, I assist parents by helping them develop, implement, and adhere to a parenting plan tailored to their unique family needs. Some of the areas where I provide guidance include:
- Parental Transitions and Scheduling Adjustments : Supporting seamless transitions between households, helping adjust schedules as children grow and family needs change.
- School, Health, and Activity Decisions: Facilitating discussions on school selection, healthcare (such as orthodontics or therapy), extracurricular activities, and other key decisions.
- Travel and Documentation Needs: Advising on travel plans, passport issues, and the management of children’s identification needs.
- Involvement of Extended Family or Significant Others: Setting boundaries and roles for other family members and partners, with a focus on stability for the children.
- Social Media and Privacy Concerns: Addressing appropriate use of social media by parents and children, including privacy considerations.
- Health and Safety Protocols: Supporting parents in making decisions on health and wellness issues for their children.
Parenting Coordination can be court-ordered or initiated by parents themselves and can be integrated at any stage of the process—whether during, before, or after a legal dispute. As your Parenting Coordinator, my role is tailored to the specific needs of your family. My goal is to empower parents to resolve conflicts independently and provide their children with a nurturing, conflict-free environment.
